German Shepherd Puppy Training

Puppy Training

Contrary to popular belief, a puppy may be properly trained at the early stages of his or her life. Establishing good habits for utilization indoors is crucial for a young puppy. The exact type of puppy training best for your canine is dependent upon the breeder your puppy came from. This is because the breeder will more than likely have the most knowledge on the projected behavior of your specific breed of puppy. However, training your new puppy is not merely limited to founding restroom practices that are in your approval. The instilling of proper socialization techniques, creating authority, noise control, the elimination of chewing and biting, jumping, and adjusting your puppy to his or her leash and collar are also on the list of top priorities of things to train your brand new puppy for.

At the beginning of Puppy training you have to depend upon the breeder from which you purchase your puppy to provide the basics behavior of the puppy. If you are well acquainted with the breeder, you are more likely to be able to positively affect the early training of your puppy.

At the beginning the puppy will feel disoriented and afraid of the new surroundings. Here you need to assist your new puppy in becoming acclimated with his new home. To help your puppy adjust to his new environment you should provide water, food, a chew toy, and a comfortable bed, preferably in an enclosed crate.

Till the age of three weeks, puppies are able to learn very little in the way of training, they are unaware of much except mom, food and sleep. Crate training can actually begin at this age. Papers are layered on the floor around the crate and the puppy will explore and roam, sleep in the crate, and eliminate on the paper.

Don't use punishment in puppy training. Any negative stimuli should be limited to using the word "no" and blocking the puppy's negative actions. Hitting and physical abuse in puppy training of any sort are unnecessary in a young pup.

In puppy training timing is everything. Coordination of the trainers movements and corrections is directly related to the ability of the puppy to comprehend the lesson he is being taught.

Under puppy training praise the puppy if he responds to the command. When given plenty of praise and caresses immediately upon correct completion of a given command, the puppy quickly learns that the training is fun.

Allow a puppy the chance to act on its own before forcing or using corrections.

The best way of puppy training is to do the training for short periods. Puppy have a very short attention spans. Keeping sessions short, say about 10-15 minutes and doing them frequently, 2-3 time daily ensures that the trainer will have the full attention of the pup, and that the dog will not grow bored. Puppy training for short periods will be rewarding, too.

Patience and Confidence is the key to puppy training.

Keep the puppy training schedule simple. Doing easy training one at a time is a much simpler concept for a puppy than learning a whole training in one sitting.

During puppy training, use the hands only to praise and pat at the end of the exercise.

Hope the above steps help your own training program. Keep those training session short and happy!
